Hi Guys

when relocating a tank is it possible to upend it so it is standing vertcailly in order to move it out of the house into a van. I think this is the only logical way of moving my new tank from its previous owners house for two reasons:
1) he has a porch at a right angle so carrying it out horizontal will not work
2) there is an alley way behind which is over grown with a left turn at the end so the tank would need to be lifted above head height to move it.

the tank is 6 x 2 x 2 and after calcualting the weight of the tank alone is is around 230kg/36stone!!

any ideas

Don't see any reason why not.

It can handle the weight of water pushing on the side glass when it's full, so it should be able to take it's own weight while being carried.

My only concern is if you can get enough hands around a 230kg piece of glass while you manhandle it. So long as you're careful and don't knock it against anything then it should move at virtually any angle.

Well my uncle works for a window making compnay so I should be able to get hold of the suction cup devices they use to move glass, so there is some grippage there, and with the door frames topping out at 6ft 5 ish there should be plenty of space to move :good:

I did this with mine but i had 2 old duvets put down so the weight didn't put pressure on the corners, there the weakest points of the tank

How did it get there in the first place?

Orignally it was brought in through the "alley way" lifted by several burley delivery men. However, the people who I am using are not Burley men and in my opinion the quickest way is the shortest way,

You can see fro mthe quick sketch below the difficulty I face, but now i have had it confirmed i can upend it, it makes things easier (sketch not to scale  )the alley way is now covered with thick brambles, roots etc that prob weren't there 5-6 years ago when the tank was orignally brought in.

The brown rectangle is the tank in a quick mock up of how the house looks on the ground floor
