hi
i have never kept any invertebrates before but in my LFS they have some shrimp labeled as mountain shrimp its about 2.5 inches long. he has feathery fans on his front 4 legs and i like the look of him but would i need to keep more thank one?
do they require any specialist foods?
will my other fish try to eat him?
thanks
Lloyd

It is best to keep more than one as they are kinda social, but they are probably OK on their own too.

They do need specialist foods, they need to filter their food out the water. They usually sit in an area of high flow and wait for food to come to them. You need to give the some powdered flake food or liquid invertebrate food. The easiest way to do this is to squirt some in their direction using a syringe or pipette or similar.

If the species we're talking about here is Atyopsis moluccensis , then you will just need to be careful what fish you mix with. They are very vulnerable just after shedding, and need hiding places, but fish like loaches that get into the hiding places should be avoided.

They are pretty interesting things to keep :good:.

hi thanks for the reply.
so do you think i should get used to shrimp with an easier to keep shrimp like a ghost shrimp or a cherry shrimp?
