I'm sorry?
It's not considered cruel for other animals to eat other animals. You can't just change their way of diet. If an animal is carnivorous in nature, then they need to eat other animals to sustain their dietary needs. It's just nature taking its course.

Is it considered cruel to use any live foods (live shrimp, fish, worms, etc.) to feed animals? Is it also considered cruel to feed live foods to fish that are considered to be picky eaters?

I'm sorry?
No problem, it's good to know people care, which means they will try to give their fish the best quality life possible. I always try to maintain good quality water and feed quality food.
I was prepared for a few fry to make it ( which is why I stocked light) but not 40 to 50 at a time.

Hm...

Skirt tetras. Just put the fry in the same tank, you wont even see them go.

Not really. It's just part of nature. Larger fish will eat smaller fish.
Breeding animals just because someone wants to and then wanting to get rid of the animal just because to don't want to give them away and give them life and homes, you get something to either kill or eat them. Yes it is cruel.

Care to explain how it's cruel to feed smaller fish to larger fish. Also, I don't believe that the OP was intentionally going to breed fish in the first place.

First of all, I got the fish for their beauty with no intentions of breeding( I have no fish hatchery). I knew they would be a few which I was prepaired for with all of intent of keeping them and enjoying them. In the past whenever they had fry most would not make it, only a few would and I was prepaired for that. However I have never known of a case where they all make it. I consider this a freak incident because in all my years I have never heard of this happening before.
It's not that I don't want to give them away because I do, it's just that I have no way of doing so. You really should get your facts straight.

Another option: Do you have any family members or friends that have an aquarium and would like to get some fish? If so, you can contact them and let them pick some up.

Put them for free on craigslist or kijiji and under pick up only. Watch how fast people jump on it lol

I don't know anyone that has fish in family or anywhere around here and I live in the middle of nowhere
