[Death by Fish Tanks]

"While this ecosystem is named after, well, the moss, I've actually been through quite a few plants in here. As of this post, the floor is dominated by Hypnum cupressiforme, accented with some sort of ivy. No notable creatures in here yet besides springtails, but that'll change when the weather warms up."

12/24/2024-1 month update (Outdated)
"I was originally going to use it for some sort of small gecko, but decided to use it for an invertebrate ecosystem instead. The apex predator will either be a praying mantis or a jumping spider, whichever I get a hold of first. And more moss because you could *never* have too much moss!"

From experience, jumping spiders do better in tall enclosures as they like to jump horizontally in 3d space rather than across landscapes. You'll also never see it except at feeding time cause it'll just sit in its sac in the corner. If you really want a jumper then perhaps more branches will suffice, but I wouldn't recommend them for this enclosure.

I'm less familiar with mantids, but I do know that they also prefer taller containers as those are the ones that people sell on the internet.

If you're ok with herbivorous insects you could try giant millipedes, beetles, or cockroaches.

What size is this setup? I don't know much about herps or tarantulas but maybe you could explore those if you have a big enough enclosure.

I'm not sure what it picks predator I'm going to have in this enclosure though. I am going to put one in my Starry Highlands enclosure, if you're interested.

2 Month Update:
Grass and miscellaneous weeds are growing from between the Moss. It seems it won't have to add extra plants then.

The Mossy Plains has its first native! I was so surprised to find a slug in the enclosure, of all things. Must've come from outside with the moss

I don't treat what I bring in from outside unless it may be contaminated. My motto with animal keeping is let nature be nature. Sometimes critters n' plants catch a ride into my tanks and I'm happy to have them.

Keep at it! Also be careful where you collect. Try after a hard rain.
