Ok...my kiddo says we need females if we are going to keep mollys and guppies together...lol.So will 2 females for each be overcrowding our 5g tank? That would make a total of six fish.Also...do we need the females before we add the molly or would the two males be ok for a little while? The tank currently has just the male guppy and two ghost shrimp. But kiddo talked me into getting a beautiful gold colored lyretail molly....

I know another tank is in our future :p

I'm confused

Some places say mollies are good beginner fish and others say not.I do think eventually I will be moving my cold water fish to at least a 55g tank. Then the livebearers could have the 10g.And the betta could have the 5g which is probably really too small to be a permanent home for anything else.

I'm just not sure what to do for the moment since I already have a male guppy and a male molly :*)

Mollies can be a bit difficult at times. They tend to be quite particular about the water conditions so that is why you have heard both. They are very easy to look after if the water is stable but if there are fluctuations in water quality and parameters then they can stress quite easily.
If it is only for a short time then i would say go ahead and get the females in the 5 gallon. As mentioned keep an eye on the fish and make sure you do your tank maintenance and they should be ok. HTH :)
