I still seem to have a prob with my guppies constantly being at the surface....have just added an airstone...although when we bought the tank there was no airstone in it..i assume as we bought the tank complete with fish from a soft water area....now we have started doing water changes....they are not keen as we are in a hard water area.....the water is tested regularly....all ok....ph seems to be at 6.0.......

Now i have noticed on a few of the fancy tail guppys..the end of there tails seem to be jagged as if they are splitting.....cant seem to find anything about this in any books....can anyone shed any light on this.......have lost one.......all other fish are fine.......just the guppies seem to unhappy......hope someone can answer swiftly so i can rectify anything that may be wrong.....

What are your water parameters? Filtration? How long has the tank been up and running? Need more info to accurately determine the problem.

:/ Can you please provide more information about the tank? Are their tails ragged looking and is there white stuff at the ends? I think you should increase your pH up a bit, since guppies like it around 7.0. What other fish are in the tank? -_-

hi......the tails are ragged on some of the guppies.. no there is no white on them at all......the tank has been up and running for about 18 mths....but in a softer water area as we bought the tank off a lady who couldnt do water changes anymore due to illness.......think our water changes may of affected them somewhat as we have hard water.....however..have added an airstone...bought a new external filter as we think the filter wernt running to its full capacity...and also added some anti bacterial stuff in.....touch wood the guppies seem a lot happier swimming about.....tails havent altered yet...although seem some similar in LFS today.......

other fish in tank are..

3 Clown loach
3 Xray tetra's
1 moonlight gourami
2 golden gourami's
2 leeri gouramis
1 silver shark
1 rainbow shark
2 sunset platies
3 coolie loaches
3 corydoras
1 rather large albino plec
1 rather large common plec
1 medium zebra plec
2 swordtails
1 mollie (others in maternity tank)
plenty of guppies
