ok, before i thought my zebra danios were being nasty... turns out they were playing!! this time, its my green barbs. they've been chasin each other around quite viciously, biting the other fish's tails and now they've killed an half eaten a glowlight tetra.

i've increased the amount i feed them in a bid to stop them getting hungry, but is there anything else i can do? i don't have an isolation tank. :/

I would probably recommend getting rid of the barbs by turning them over to one of your local fish stores. Barbs can be very nippy if you have less then six of them. As for isolating injured and agressive fish try a breeding net or the plastic variety. ;)

I would say bye to those barbs, I wouldn't of even placed those barbs with the fish selection you've chosen, besides a maybe 1 - 2... Barbs love to have plants, and they do better with their own type, I use to have tons of them, but they got to the point where they would have gangs and it didn't matter, the gangs would start to pick on other fish. So I waited for them to die without buying any other fish then I created a tetra tank...

i was told they'd be fine because i'd got 5 of them and the lfs guy told me they were good with the fish i had (i told him about every fish in there, plus he'd sold me the tetra!!!)

maybe i'll try and take them back :-( , do you this the shop will accept them back?! i've only had them since monday

I believe so and I hope so. If you do take your receit with you with the fish in a bag, and "if they have a amount of days before you can return them" then yes, but if you don't know just call them or go up there... hope everything goes well..

They will, it is one spot if they all looked infected and in weird shape they would tell you they don't accept returns... I say give it a shot... Get new fish, try Neon tetras, those are very beautiful in a group and it takes a LONG time for them to get their full size and they stay small for quite a wile...

Quite a while? At what point do neons stop being "quite small"? Are these the Moby Dick variety that come from the same place as those 1.75" black neons someone was talking about earlier today?

I must have stepped into the acquarist's Twilight Zone

It has nothing to do with them being hungry, it's because they're territorial and therefore naturally agressive fish. You can feed them til they explode but it wont stop barbs biting other fish.

And seriously why are you suprised they wont take them back when they have white spot? Would you put a fish with white spot in your tank?

" i know this is from where I live " but the petshops let you take them back if you're not pleased with their service, but again that's down here... I would suggest you to take them back and if they notice it they notice it but I don't think they would right off the bat...

Roflmao Alien, LOL! This thing won't let me show pictures of the neon but I do have some websites you could try...

I agree, some local fish shop here do that too, but the really good one accepts fish for up to 11 days only, then they give you a new one, or store credits. Otherwise, if you want cash, they give you half the amount you paid for the fish.

I returned two ruby scat. They told me they were peaceful community fish. Then I found out they were brackish and grow to 12 inches. I just went in with them in a bag and told the guy I didn't want them. He said they don't take fish back. I explained he had given me bad info and I just stood there until he finally agreed to take them back. Same goes for you if you told the guy you wanted peaceful fish for a community tank it was his mistake to sell you tiger barbs. I wouldn't call first I would just show up with fish in hand and be firm. It really was his mistake. I also never buy a fish now without totally researching it first no matter what LFS says.
