I saw a betta today at WM. Decided to go back to get him. Son and future DIL went with me--we came home with two new bettas. The "kids" wanted to buy them all but the checkbook prevailed. The new tanks are 1 gallon each and will fit nicely on the opposite side from George. I wonder how many bettas will live here by the time the "kids" leave for college (across the country) in the Fall?

Lol it's good to set your number goal early before it consumes you! I tell you these nice, tempting bettas will always pop up when you least expect it(like cheap shoe sales). They really should create "the patch" but for betta addicts!

HA!
I agree.

I intended to have only one. In the beginning.
Today I picked up numbers 16 and 17 (and that's not including the ones who have died). EEK!

The new tanks are one gallon each, with an underground filter system. I initially was going to use the filter system, so the plastice bottom piece was in Barracuda's tank, with round rocks over it. I took out the tube though because I decided not to use it as the flow was too swift and the tank was pretty small and I could easily do frequent water changes. I set up the second tank for Charger without the undregravel filter.

Before bed, I checked on the little guys, and Barrracuda was NOT in his tank (they both have lids with lights). NOWHERE. VANISHED. We pulled up the underground filter--Barracuda had gone through the tube hole under the plastic piece that lays all the way across the bottom of the tank. He swam up for a big gulp of air and seemed to be no worse for the adventure.

I couldn't believe that I had almost lost him due to my :*) carelessness, not his rocky start at WM. Barracude ate a couple of pellets this morning. Neither fish is moving too swiftly, but they are both alive.

OH my god - I know just exactly what you're talking about. I had 2 aquaviews and never used the UGF because I knew I'd be doing frequent water changes anyway. I can't believe he wriggled into that hole! Yikes. Thank goodness you found him when you did...

Lol, same thing happed to my little Pinky. He saw the hole and went straight for it! I'm going to try AlexsDaddy's idea of decorating a small PVC pipe for a cave :D

Charger, the healthier looking of the two new bettas, died this morning. He didn't look ill--no fin rot, no fuzzies, etc. He was swimming fine and would flare when he saw Barracuda. Yesterday he didn't eat and again early this morning he ignored his food. Meanwhile, Barracuda is busy building a bubble nest, and he has a very healthy appetite.
