We have a moonlight gouramis which we just noticed has redish/white sores just ahead of it's tail (on one side only). These sores are somewhat like cysts, in that they look like bumps on the skin. This fish still shows normal eating habits, no scraping against anything in the tank. Have a pic, but don't know how to post - if even possible.

Water temp is 80 degrees. Ph is about 7.4 - 7.6. Ammonia and nitrates are virtually nil. Have a gold and a blue gouramis also - both appear okay.

Appreciate any advice regarding treatment to correct and hopefully save this beautiful fish.
Thanks, -Bob

Could it be ich? If they look like cysts, then maybe. But you said it was reddish/whitish, and ich is always white. My fish have had bouts of ich before, but they've never scraped against anything! They are beautiful fish, and I hope they can be saved! P.S. Ich medicine can be bought at your local pet store!

bwong,
I would first lower the temp in your tank....it's to high. Lower it slowly to around 76-78 degrees. You say your ammonia and nitrates are nil!!!

What about your nitrites?? The ammonia and nitrite levels should both be 0!!

From your description it doesn't sound like ich, but more of result of injury of some type. It is very easy to post pics here.

Go to the members pics forum and follow the directions in the first post on how to post them. If you still have trouble posting them, let me know and I will talk you through it.
