Moon Lights On Ebay...

Was going to get them and probably still would of if there were space on my lid to fix them in :) worth a go.

tbh i would go for the DIY method pinned at the top of this thread.

get a multi-volt adapter, 2 blue cold cathodes and your done and the effect is much better than leds :good:

poundstretcher/instore sell the adapters for £3.49 i think :good: :good:

I looked at those lights too but heard not that good as the acted like mini spot lights and nothing much more than xmas tree lights cut short. then went for cold cathode !!! much much better ive got them on 3 of my tanks if you want ive wrote a step by step guide for what you need and how to make them just havnt uploaded the pics yet to put it on here, would be more than happy to pm / mail you the guide.

yeah i was going to say the l.e.d's will be more like spot lights even the wide angle ones.

i still havnt made mine, i don't know why though since i have everything i need other than the cathodes and they aint exactly hard to get hold of!

thier is a way to sread the light with led's thats by sanding down the front of them gives a better spread (found that out from a car forum)

the cathodes you are talking about are these the ones for pc cases ? if not has any one tried them ?

when you get a cold cathode set as they are for pc's the 2 pin connector that supplies the power to the inverter (comes ith tthe cold cathode tubes) is connected to a 4pin pc power connector for a pc , you need to cut the red and the black 2 pin cables, then take the 12v / multi volt power adapter lead and may need to cut the universal head off this and expose the cores of the cables then twist the together / connect to bullet connnectors with the neg and poss Black / red of the 2 pin connector, you can buy them pre built as a kit but you could pay £20 when you can do it yourself for less that £12 if you want i can send you a step by step guid so you can read through and see if its something you think you could do. its fairly simple !!!

you dont use them as a main lighting scource but as a moonlight affect thats more natural to the fish for night time it gives some light ilumination and youd be amazed at what some fish get up to at night that you prev couldnt see.

The DIY method at the top of the page works excellent.
I bought mine from Ebay ( here ) for about a fiver shipped.
Add one of these here on ebay and you are all done for less than ten quid to your door.

Cut off the PC connections from the cathodes when they arrive and splice/solder/bodge the leads to the main adapter.

I just did mine yesterday following the guide at the top and its very easy. I have left off the switch that came with them personally as I will be hooking them up to a timer so that I have a light cycle of main light -> cathode -> darkness each night by syncing up the two timers. Also I could not fit all the equipment in my light housing either so I tied it onto the flex going to my light instead.
