Hi,
I posted a week or so ago about 3 new common black mollies I have in a cycling 2.5 gal tank (I know about fishless cycling now) that had ich. I treated with a little salt and some Maracyn and that cleared it up really nicely.
The past couple of days I have noticed a difference in one of the fish. I think I have two females and one male. The two females are much larger than the male (they all started out around the same size, about an inch, and they were all fairly young).
All three are crazy at times and seem to always want to eat and then fight over the food (I assume this is normal?). I feed tropical flakes and spirulina discs.
One of the larger females is especially aggressive and will sometimes chase the other two, especially the small male. She is kind of a bully, although sometimes they will all three hang out together just fine so I don't know what sparks the aggression.
Anyway, the male is swimming very strangely the past 2 days. It is almost like his tail is broken. It also seems to be pinched more than the females, in other words the body just before the tail fan is much thicker and stronger on the females. In the male, his tail sometimes droops downward. He seems to be compensating a lot with his front side fins. Sometimes he rests on the bottom. But still he is swimming around fairly fast and definitely goes for the food. Occasionally he seems to have these little spasms where he almost bends around (like mouth to tail).
Does this sound like anything familiar to anyone? Much thanks for the help, I don't want to lose him. There is already Maracyn in the tank so I don't know what else I can treat with if anything.
