I have a Dalmatian Molly and a bright red/orange (I don't know exact term) Platy in a 10 gallon. Would it be okay to add a Betta fish? I really love the looks of them, and I considered a Gourami but am nervous about aggressiveness. I also have a pleco but have read these are rather non aggressive unless with other plecs. Would a male or female be better? Both my Molly and Platy are males.

Thanks!

Im not sure If I'll be much of help. But I had swordtails with a male betta in a 50gallon and he was very aggresive towards them. female bettas get on fine fine with them tho. I had A blue spot, gold, dwarf flame and pearl gourami with swordtails before w/out problems. Never had mollies n platies in my tank but swordtails are very similar to a platy, I believe.

maybe there are some here that had tried this mix before n respond to ur thread later. Bump.

I have a male betta in with some balloon mollies he gets along great with them

If I were you, I would be worrying about the bettas... This is because Bettas can be very aggressive towards other fish.

I have a 55 gallon tank with several Mollies, Guppies, Swordtails etc along with a Dwarf Gourami, a Pleco and a Male Betta and they all get along fine, then again there's plenty of hiding places and space for them all.

I have:

3 guppys
3 mollys
3 plattys

and a betta. There is only two mollies that don't get on too well, i have never seen the betta be aggresive once!

My betta lives with a platy and 6 endlers, he's only ever flared a couple of times to assert his dominance.

Don't forget, bettas can be aggressive and territorial fish. You might put him in the tank and he might rip the tankmates into shreds, but he might just flare at them and then be on his way. Each has a different personality, and will act differently towards different fish.
That makes them sound really scary, but it's the risk you have to take. :good:

I must have had some aggressive male Bettas  My old male male Betta killed one of my Balloon Molly :-( n gave the other 2 Ick(they recovered fully tho after I treated them) on my first night adding him. Female Bettas work bettter tho IME, never had problems mixing them with livebearers.

I hope to setup another Betta or Irrubesco Puffer tank again one day. Theyre the small fish that I miss having, after downgrading to just 1 big tank.
