With most livebearers the correct ratio is one male for two or three females. You can have more females than 3 for each male, you just don't want the ratio to be less. The males try to constantly breed so this gives the females a break. A lower male to female ratio will also cause agression since there aren't enough females to satisfy the males if there is more than one male of the species in the tank.

yup, 1 male to every 2 females ratio minimum. You can go higher on the females, but not higher on the males for exactly the reasons Bryan mentioned. Good luck
