Hi,

I noticed yesterday evening, that one of my male mollies has a bulbus eye, it seems all red as opposed to white. other then that he seems fine, all the other mollies are ok too with no symptoms, could he have been fighting to get that? there are 2 other males and 3 females. My water is all fine temperature is 25 degress celcius, and i only recently did a water change on friday. I have read that you can add salt to help prevent things like that- but i wouldnt know where to start with it all- what sort of medicine should i use for them? i have at home, some stuff that treat ich/whitespot and it says on the bottle "is also effective on other bacterial problems" would a dose of that help? or do i need to get something more specific?

thanks for your help.

Sarah

Pop eye is only a symptom of an internal bacterial infection and not a disease in itself.
I've heard that treating with a mix of Naladixic Acid and Kanamycin Sulfate will sometime cure the infection however, Pop eye usually appears after the disease is far advanced and difficult to treat.

so its likely im too late? will i lose the mollie?

thanks for your reply btw!

According to several sources there is approx 50% chance of survival.

Daily water changes and treating with the suggested medication (above) you stand a good chance of saving the fish. The eye may never return to its normal apperance, so do not worry about it.

 One of females guppies has popeye in both eyes around a month ago. I immediately sepearted her and treated her with Jungle Fungus Clear and she healed overnight!
