Hi All,

When feeding my fish last night I spotted that one of the Mollies seemed to be constantly bent sideways so that it's tail was bent at about 45 degrees from normal.

There is also possibly a white 'furry' looking spot on its side (Just where it's body is bent) although this is very hard to confirm due to the fish colouration (Mainly black with white spots) and small size.

She seems to be acting as normal (Eating well, coming up to the suface as soon as the tank lid opens etc)

I have isolated this one fish into the quarantine tank to be on the safe side and none of the other fish in the main tank seem to have any problems at all.

All water parameters are normal (Nitrates between 20-40, all others at zero) and had just done a 25% water change a couple of days ago.

It could be a variaty of diseases Fish Tuberculosis causes a bent spine but tilting sideways with a possible fungus....Hmmm could be a parasite that appears to be a fungus.

Maybe swim bladder...what do others think?

Has the fish also lost weight, the white spot how big is it, as you can get columnaris spot, does it have a circling of red around it or a red spot in the centre of it.
Does the fish look bloated as that can cause the tail to bend.

Thanks for the suggestions so far... Keep em coming!

The fish doesn't appear to have lost or gained any weight (Only had the mollies for 4 weeks so kind of hard to tell)

Have had as close a look at her tonight as possible and the white spot could just be part of the natural marbelling the fish is less than 1 inch at the moment, there are no other signs of anything being amiss other than the bending of the tail.

Would you think it is worth putting some swim bladder medicine into the tank as a temporary measure?

I had some platys a while back and two of them got a bending of the tail, sadly they didn't make it, you could try the swim bladder med but there are no guarantees it will work, increase aeration in the tank if you add the med, good luck.

Thanks for the reply,

The latest news is that the mollie now appears to have lost the 45 degree bend and only seems to have a very slight bend now (Which could even be down to my overactive immagination! ) and I cannot see any sign of the mysterious white spot.

It is still in the quarantine tank and I haven't given her any meds yet (Was holding back on the meds just incase someone said No!)

How long would you recommend keeping it in quarantine before returning it to the main tank?

Has she given birth recently.
