-_- Hmmm I just want to know the basics for proper tank care.

I have a 3 gallon tank with 8 adorable Mollies. It has the gravel and two fake plants for them to swim in and around for coverage. I have the air tube in there blowing bubbles BUT what else must I do. I want the opinions of all you wonderful people out there that love your fish and want to do the best for them. I want to add snails and a Pleco and a catfish maybe. Do I really need salt? I read that some don't use it and they seem fine and I don't think these ever had the salt.

I truly appreciate your time and effort!
I am a pround MollieMomma and will soon share pictures of my babies.
My girlfriend, Marie, has 8 tanks and she is breeding them daily.

Go to www.anglezwlyd.com and look at her swimmie babies.

I would like to know about when to turn the light on/off and when to feed.

Thanks!

To be absolutely brutally honest, my opinion is that you're way over-stocked already. A general rule of thumb is an inch of fish length per gallon of water - so 8 mollies, who will grow to 3.5 inches long when adult, would require a tank of at least 30 gallons. You could probably fit a few snails and a dwarf pleco in that as well, but that's the sort of size of tank you're looking for.

You can raise mollies in fresh water but salt can help avoid ich and fungal infections. You amount of light you have depends on your plants (live plants need at least 10 hours of light per day, I feel). You should feed a good mixed diet maybe once or twice a day, but stick to small amounts. Foods can include flake, algae wafers, cucumber, lettuce, spinach, shelled frozen peas, bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia.

You have too many fish for a 3 gallon tank! You didn't even mention anything about filtration so I am assuming that you aren't filtering the tank which is going to hurt the fish. Some people say that any livebearer (Mollies, Guppies, Swordtails, Platies) need salt in their tanks but they can live without it. Sometimes a little salt will make their colors brighter and help their immune systems though. As to lighting, as most tropical fish live near the equator they can live in basically any lighting even constant light. Its mostly a matter of personal preference unless you have noctornal scavengers who like it dark.

I have a 10 gal w/a mollie and platies. :D I have 1 tbsp salt in the 10 gallons (about 1/2 recommended dose for mollies) but I think 1/2 dose is about right. :)

Hi gang,

I just found out that the tank has a under the gravel filter.
I will read up on proper fish care and eventually purchase a nicer and bigger tank.

:p I'm hooked on fishies.
