For years I've thought how cool it would be to have a modular tank, one with several smaller tanks connected by tubes, perhaps with different things in each tank, and the fish could swim between each one at will. I'm now craving another tank after my betta died last Christmas, but my house doesn't really have much space. Maybe some bristlenose plecos and another betta. I was looking at wall hanging tanks, and contemplating getting several smaller ones and connecting them with plastic pipes. As long as the pipes were wide enough and not toooo long, it shouldn't be that hard to clean with a siphon, but I'm not sure how filtration and heating would work.

Any ideas?

With nice large connecting tubes, you filter it by using the inlet to a canister from the tank at one end and you return the water to the tank at the other end. That way you don't end up with dead spots in the water flow pattern.
