Hi All,

After my recent loss of my fish, ive decided to upgrade my tank filtration etc, my original tank came pre-drilled with 2 x 1 inch holes in the bottom, but fitted with plugs, so I decided to leave them as they where.

Seeing how Ive now got the tank completely empty ive decided to remove this plugs and add a sump inside my stand, my questions are;,

1) Is it safe to use the standered 32mm waste pipe, such as sold in B & Q and Wickes for the main water runs.

2) The pipe will be solvent welded together, but does anyone know if the off the shelf stuff, like what Wickes sells be aqurium safe or is there a particular brand to use?

Thanks to everyone who has replyed to my previous posts and to all who aid in this query.

Once cured, the standard chemical welding solvent should not present any problem. If the smell has dispersed, the real hazard of the solvent should already be history. Unless overwhelmed by recent odors, your nose can detect odors in the parts per billion or even lower range. At those levels, things should prove safe.

I would chemically solder then use a small amount of aquarium safe silicone to ensure the seal is watertight. Don't forget to put a ball valves before/after every pipe entering the tank so that you can shut it off easily.
