Mixing Shrimp?

Can you mix shrimp types in an aquarium?

I have 2 cleaner shrimps at the moment. I'd like to get a/2 peppermint shrimp or fire red shrimpl, is this possible?? Also how many can i get in a 40 (us) gallon / 155 litre tank, which is fully stocked with fish!!

Comments would be appreciated..

All I can find on google search is freshwater! I've seen that chart. Looking for marine shrimp though.

You can mix those shrimp without any problems, definitely wouldn't do more than 4 in a tank that size.

You got me interested though and there do seem to be alot of marine fish compatibility charts, any charts on marine inverts is very thin on the ground.

However, I have found this which looks much more in-depth and awkward to use than the normal charts and you have to decide for yourself whether they are compatible but it make it pretty easy for you.

It tells you whether they eat invertebrates or are aggressive or territorial etc. It also covers quite alot of invertebrates too but doesn't really specify between the shrimp compatibilities eg peppermint and fire etc.

Thts a good link, now to throw something out there, (not planning on doing this) can you put a peppermint, a fireshrimp and a skunk shrimp all in together?! are there any shrimp that fight? And will they try and interbreed??

Can't comment on the peppermints but my blood shrimp are right bullies and never leave my cleaner shrimp alone

Interesting! When u say they dnt get on, what do they do??

I'm suprised that you can keep different types together, good news though although after nick's comment not sure whether to add one!! My cleaner shrimp are well cool, although they're a little lazy!!

My blood shrimp just constantly harass the cleaner, i would guess it was a territory issuse as they have calmed down since i have rearranged my rockwork.

One thing my cleaner shrimp isn't is lazy, it's a pita , it's interested in everything and makes feeding my sun coral a nightmare.
