mixing flourite

I think I've settled on Flourite as a substrate for a planted display and I am thinking about mixing it with sand to keep the cost down. Does this impede the effectiveness of Flourite as a growth medium? What type of sand should I use and what mix ratio should go for?

nobody is answering but maybe what im thinking isn't so wrong you could try layering the flourite under sand or something

OK when I was researching flourite and laterite I thought that flourite was to be used as the entire substrate and laterite is mixed with other substrates.

I did read however that flourite is expensive and can be mixed say 50/50 which was my plan....but i ended up only being able to get laterite anyway.

If I was you and you didn't mind a gravel substrate I would go for a 50/50 mix of flourite and black gravel. I think that would look quite cool.
