Mixing Fish?

I just wanted to ask a quick question.. If I buy lets say 5 different types of Platy.. will they mix together and form a little school? Or if I have 2 groups of a couple Tetras, will they mix together or stay away from each other?

Generally Platys don't tend to shoal together, I have 10 in my tank and they never swim in line with eachother, but they do swim near and around eachother in a 'group' I guess. I have 10Cardinal/Neon tetras and they all shoal together which looks brilliant - especially as I have a black background.

I have 3 different Platys and they do tend to stick together, especially 2 of them. Though I think it's just coz they like to make sure the other isn't getting more food!

Ok thanks, I just thought it would be really cool to have a group of different looking fish instead of the same ones!
