i used to have a gibbicep ( before i knew how big they get) in my small tank which i had to give away as it grew. had my 100 gallon running for around a year now and ive wanted another 1 ever since. i got a small juvenile today. but im thinking i may end up having issues as the tank has an established L081 small spot golden nugget. im prepared to sell the nugget on if need be but realisticly whats the odds of it working?

In a 100g tank with plenty of hiding places they will probably be fine, once the gibby gets to a decent size he will be able to look after himself.

There isn't really an answer other than wait and see, ive known people keep GN's with various other plecs with no problems so your odds are pretty good with such a large tank :)

Most plecs can be kept together but i was told that 2 plecs of the same L number will fight at maturity, so you should be ok as long at they are different L numbers.

Completely incorrect. As long as they have sufficient space to call there own and not to many males within a group, you can have ADULT groups of almost any plec species. Aggression starts to happen when there housed inadequately and not giving the space nor places to hide that they need.

Not the case, all fish are different. I've had paaques together with plenty of room and spaces to hide and one still ended up being picked on...and yet other panaques I've had have got on fine. Same for pseudas and and adonis plec...couldn't stand each other. Sometimes space and hiding places aren't all that's required to make fish content.

I apologise, i should have elaborated a little more. When i stated above about ""you can have ADULT groups of almost any plec species"" i was referring to smaller varieties and not the monster plecs of sorts. Yes i agree some of the larger species can be a little more difficult but i still think in essence if you gave a large panaque group the similar sort of room in comparison to say as a L260 grouped tank etc etc it would be far easier to have them living in harmony (within reason i guess).

For instance.....

4x 4 inch L260 in a 4 foot tank---- 4x 10 inch panaques in a 10 foot tank..... Just a rough example of equivenlent fish size to tank ratio.

I also agree of the 'particular' plec itself, ive had GN's which seem to be notorious with not getting on with other species be fine within a tank of mixed and own species

well no probs so far but the gibbi is small and has only been in there since yesterday
