in my 29 gal i currently have 3 neons, 4 glo lites, and 3 albino glo lites among other fish. these guys are almost always near each other and when ever i redo the tank or do a partial or such they all come together in to one big group. is this normal at all? also if i add some cardinals in to the tank will they do the same. i origanly had 7 neons and lost 4 which i just replaced but they have all died already so i thought i might have luck with cardinals. the planned final stocking would be 1 angel, 2 bolivian rams, 3 ottos, 5 corries, 4 glo lites, 3 albino glo lites, 3 neons, 4 cardinals, and 5 corries.

You should really have at least 6 of each tetra type, so before you add anymore species to the list i would still definaly advise you try and work on your current tetra numbers- if you cant keep enough of each tetra type alive personally i would rehome them. An angel would probably be a bad idea as they naturally eat neons in the wild and its not uncommon for them to eat small tetras in aquarium set ups, and angel would probably grow to big for a 29gal too unfortunatly depending on the tanks dimensions- the rest of the stocking idea sounds fine to me though taking these factors into consideration :thumbs: :) .

thanks. i was told my angel would be fine in my tank. its a standered AGA tank(the one sold in the kits). i know my angel might eat my neons. the reason y i lost teh first 4 was because i added too many fish at once. i ended up lossing a pair of german blue rams, 1 corry, 3 ottos, 4 neons, and 3 glo lite. then the new neons i added died within 3 of getting them so i think it was a bad batch or something. the 3 orignals are very healthy. would my tanks be good with this: 1 angel, 2 bolivian rams, 7 neons, 3 ottos, 7 glo lites(the regular and albino are all the same right?), 4 corries and 7 cardinals?

Check out this thread on angel keeping- a normal 29gal long is too small for angels unless its got alot of height, even then its a bit on the small side;

Some angels can be fine with neons as long as they are brought up with them from a very young age/small size, although either way its not somthing i would totally recommend. The rest of the stocking sounds fine although i'd get 6 otos instead of 3 as they do best in larger groups, otos are difficult to acclimatise though- when your lfs gets them in stock i would wait at least a week before you get them as the thing that often kills them the most when going into a new tank set up is stress or starvation issues from the transport to the lfs itself; any otos that are still alive after a week in the lfs are likely to be much easier to successfully acclimatise to your tank(you could ask if they could put some aside for you for a week if you paranoid of them all being sold before you can get to them :thumbs: ) :nod: .

thanks. in the link tolak says 18 inch tall tanks are the min which i belive mine is. ill have to double sheck on that. my angel is a normal one, not a veil tail. thanks. i know about the ottos too. the 3 i currently have are doing well and have fat bellies.

the fish i have in 29 gal right now are: 1 angel, 2 bolivian rams, 3 neons, 7 glo lites(3 are albino), 3 ottos, and 4 corries. so if i add 4 neons, 4 ottos, 7 cardinals, and 1 corry i would i have a total of: 1 angel, 2 bolivian rams, 7 neons, 7 glo lites(3 albino), 7 cardinals, 7 ottos, and 5 corries. will this be ok or too much. btw i change 7.5 to 10 gal of water every week.....oh incase you cant tell i prefer odd numbers with large groups(odd isnt it :fun: )

tonite ill get the exact demensions and post either tonite(if i can) or tomorrow morning.

edit to say no pun intended........ :lol:

personally i dont know much about rams but i do know that an angel wouldn't be in your best interest. as for the glolights and albinos i think you are fine there since they are the same species just different variation in color. as for the neons and cardinals... i think that they should be ok too. cardinals look very similar to neons but have a longer red stripe and grow slightly larger.

small tetras like that usually school together. also the black neon and bloodfin tetras are a good idea to give variety. i was told that white cloud minnows and danios work well and school with them also (don't know if this is true but this is what i have been told) personally having a large school of varying tetras in a school beats any ram or angelfish in my book

:D
