Not always.

Have they been sucked into your filter?

I've lost a few neons and they are ridiculously hard to find if they dont float, which only one of mine ever did.

Sometimes at the start I'd think I'd lost one, only to find see them swimming a few days later. They hide really well, and can stay motionless for a long time.

Anyways, the filter idea is definitely good, check there for sure. Also check the water surface around anything goin into your tank (heater, etc.) They could be caught between the object and the glass, I found one there once. I also had to lift up some decorations to find another, and vacuuming your substrate would be a good idea. Especially if its smaller gravel or sand. :dunno:

Sometimes fish die and then get eaten, I'm not sure if Widows would eat one fast enough for you not to notice it half eaten though?

Probably get eaten I cant find my neon some time as well but that was before when my tank have ich out break so I guess it must be either eaten by others or jump out.

When my Neons suffered their NTD outbreak only one of seven casualties floated. The others either sank or ended up in the filter. Not nice especially since the other started eating them, thus spreading the disease. Three tough little survivors though!
