Sounds like maybe a fungus? Some types will look "moldy" as you describe it. Are there any other symptoms such as flashing (rubbing aganist things)? We'll need a little more info, it's hard to diagnose from the little info you've shared. :dunno:

I've seen her fish and thos are the only symptoms,it seems like a fungus to me but we are just wondering what can we do to save them because it doesnt look like there is much time left

ya now that i think of it they where rubbing againt the roks abit is it tail rot ?

when the fish rub themselves against rocks it's usally ich.
my angel fish just died from fin and tail rot i treated him with an anti fungus, but the other fish picked on him and stressed him out :(

Poor little guys! Fish will rub themselves against things b/c of ich, but for other diseases as well. It sounds like you have a few nasty bugs in there, including fin rot--you might want to do a partial water change to freshen things up a bit.

I could be a lot of things. I have seen what you describe with PH shock, the fins look as if they are melting. Scratching or flashing could be a sign of parasites such as ich, but is not always the case, ph fluctuations also cause this as will any kind of irritation like contamination etc.
I would do 20% water changes daily as nothing helps better than good clean water, without it treatment may fail or the disease will just keep re-occuring.
Condition your water by leaving it standing over night with an airstone if possible, as wellas a de-chlorinator and treat the tank with a broad range parasite remedy like quick-cure if the tests turn out ok.
