How long should 1 Betta have the 'Mirror' a day ???

Many Thanks
Charlie

a few minutes several times a day...or when you remember:) or just prop it up next to the tank or find one with a suction cup and leave it there for 20 minutes or so..sometimes my boys get bored of the game...they know they cant get to the other guy!
cheers

Well i have been doing it for 10 mins for both peach and bubbles. but have been working the time from 3 mins to 10 mins for peach as he was resced and was very stressed. so didnt want to make him ill again. Bubbles seems to never get board. I dont know about peach as this is proper first time today

Mine does not seem to respond to a mirror at all! Does the mirror really depend on their personalities?

I suppose to in a way. But he should respond. Because its in their mind to fight when came across another male. Was your nest to a another tank with a fighter in in LFS if so this might be reason. He has got bored of it lol.

lilacamy, one of mine doesn't bother with it either. He did the first time, but not since. He does flare though, at frogs, leaves (?) and my other betta, just seems to depend what he feels like

one of my boys couldnt be bothered anymore(he's sort of an old man at this point...very laid back).
my second boy is sort of scared by his reflection. flares and darts around like a maniac!!!
my third boy flares at anything and everything. sometimes its the snail...sometimes its me....sometimes it is a plant...sometimes it is the bubbles from his sponge filter...rocks...food...and sometimes he just does it for seemingly no reason(to show iff i think)...i guess it gives him a fun activity as he sees it.
they all are so different that yes, i chalk it up to individual personality.

sorry im kind of new to this, What are the advantages of showing him his reflection i assume its to stimulate another male but how is this advantageous to get him mad?

its a good thing to show your male betta the mirror. Yes it does show them there is another male there...

He makes them have 10 mins or more play time or excersie each day.
Makes their fins better. Without them clamping them now
Keeps their mind stimulated.

There is nothing wrong with the mirror expect if you leave him with a mirror longer than 20 mins because it can stress them out. i would personly do 5 mins for the first time with the mrror and then next week 10 mins intill it gets to 20 mins or intill you are happy with the time.

Hope this helped

the betta i have has never flared once and ive had him about 5 months no matter what ive tryed mirrior evan when he was in with a guppy he didnt touch him. he just gets in to a mood lol

wow you got a very laid back betta.

Maybe he is old as well and cant be bothered about things

I would say 10-30 Mins of Good Flaring excersize is beneficial to the Betta.
My Ickle SB likes to flare at the Fighters on the Hikari Betta Bio Gold Packet.

wow thats so strange wouldnt of thought they would do that :)
