I've been trying to type an amount in Pounds in this topic and even though it shows as pounds on the screen, as soon as I refresh, it reverts back to a questions mark. Yet further up in the same post other people are using the Pound sign. Let me try now: ££££

Very odd - it seems to work in this post, but when I came back to edit my post now, the text is reading as ££££. Ignore that - it displays as a pound sign but when I edit the post it comes up as Â's

Does it display a Pound sign in the link I gave too ?

Another post I found that doesn't display a Pound sign - at least not for me on my screen.

OK, there's definitely something wrong - it just turned what I saw as a Pounds sign (and capital A with an Accent thinghy on top) into gobbledygook (in my first post here at the end).

ive noticed this on some threads, where whats supposed to be a pound sign is a question mark

I have seen that happen a lot on other forums, stuff they type comes out like this: ()£*£$^&"£

I had similar issues with my site. I think it's due to encoding issues with the database, and the encoding in which web pages are served.. I had the same problem with a few of my posts when I used the quick edit function.

This one is easy... right click --> encoding --> Western European (or Unicode).

I see in many threads the Sterling Pound sign still appears as a question mark. Could anything be done to fix this please ? :)

I've seen this on various sites before too on occasion and it has nothing to do with the pound symbol in some of them. Changing the encoding only causes other special characters to become error marks as well.

Just another quick point... I'd imagone it's just my PC, but when I click on the smileys on the left when you post, I get a runtime error.
