i wanted to buy some jewel cichlids and im wondering the minimum size of a tank for them since i know they are mean fish ..

A 40" - 48" is what the reccomended size (from the index) They can be an aggressive fish so you want many hiding places and lots of room for fish to move around find territory and hide if need be.

More can be found HERE

And now i step down and hope somone with experience with this fish will tell you more. For now i hope you have a read :D

good luck ! :good:

Do you want a pair or just a single fish, or tankmates as well.

For a pair I wouldn't house them in anything less than a 30 gallon, they are very aggressive towards each other and other fish. If you want tankmates you're looking at a big tank, especially with a pair. And even then they would have to be chosen wisely.

They are technically african cichlids, but behave more like most CA cichlids than mbuna or the like. So if you're looking for personal experience with them might be better posting in the african section.

a tank of 25gal and 30" long will suit a pair but if you want them with other fish then the tank needs to be double the size due to aggression

I always found it strange that my LPS puts them with the SA section.
