Long time ago, when I was young, I used to keep a 'Giant Gourami' as my favorite pet.
When I grow up as a fish fan, I realized the scientific name of this huge fish is Osphromenus gourami
Etymology of this family name: Greek, osphra, -as = smell + Greek, nema = filament
As all the members in this group use their elongate pelvic fin as sensitive organ.
It just few days ago that I got a school of its little cute relative, the "Chocolate Gourami"
I just realized why this tiny fish has the same specific epithet as the Giant's generic name.
Sphaerichtys osphromenoides, Giant Gourami-alike
I agree that they do look alike in some bearings, and I think their habits might be the same, too.
