whats the min size tank for a common plec?

im getting a 48"x24"x24" tank soon will that be big enough? he's in a 36"x12"x18" at the moment but is just a baby. New tank should be here within a month. I would love to get a bigger tank, it's just trying to persuade the gf

hello ian H,
i had my plec in a 48"x15"x12" and he really struggled to swimm about!
He is now in a 5'x2'x18" and he seems fine in there, it is surprising how that little bit of space made such a big difference.
hope that helps,
nath1
p.s. he is about 14" now!!!

i would say at least 24 inches wide and not less than 5 foot in length. mine is atm 48x12x18, which is just ok for now, but a 6x2x2 will need to be sorted soon.

i was hoping 2ft wide and 2ft high would be enough :(

i want at least a 5 ft tank though, so maybe i should just get it and refuse to take it back

190L or 50G is the Min for a Common Pleco. Thats if you want to keep it when It gets bigger. If your going to give it way when it gets bigger then a 114L or 30G is ok.

you sure about that? me having the 48"x24"x24" would mean i would have a 100G tank and i've already been told thats not big enough :/

you'll find that - everyone has their own opinions ;)
In mine, a 4x2x2 will be fine - if it were a sail fin then bigger would be better.

yeah i know that, its just a shame theres no set rules :(
although you seem to be a bit of a plec expert so im happy with your word
just to make sure:
