I've been using Milton solution to sterilise my tank. It's essentially a 'safe' baby bottle steriliser that doesn't need to be rinsed off before using the bottle/tub/whatever-you-cleaned again. I think it has chlorine in it, or something that releases chlorine.

I have not yet re-introduced the fish to the tank, as I don't want to risk them if this isn't a safe approach. The Milton has been very thoroughly rinsed off and I've used a double dose of dechlorinator.

Do you think this is safe? Fish are in holding tubs in my rather warm dining room!

This is a link to the safety data sheet - Milton Data Sheet

From Ocado's ingredients list - "Sodium Hypochlorite 2% w/v, Milton Sterilising Fluid also contains amongst other ingredients:, Sodium Chloride 16.5% w/v"

I'd give it a really good rinsing, but there's only one way to tell if it's safe! That said, aren't your fish all still ill and isolated? Might be best to get that sorted before putting them all together again.
Did you milton the filter or will that still be 'alive'?

Filter is in a seperate tank =)

Problem with keeping them seperate is that they are getting stressed, which is going to open them up to sickness. All the ones in isolation seem healthy - it was just a preventative measure. I know what meds I need to use for columnaris now so I plan to move them back ASAP and just medicate the tank to the hilt and keep an eye on water stats. Otherwise the fish are going to be stressed, in fluctuating temperatures and will generally not do so well. With three housemates, I can't leave jars with fish lying around the house and my bedroom is too full and too cold for them without a heater.

Some of them have already decided they don't want to eat and none are at ALL happy. If anything will bring columnaris out in them, it's the incredibly limited isolation facilities I have here.

Tank has had a triple dose of de-chlorinator but still smells (and taste) of chlorine. It's all set up and ready for fish, but I'm waiting a few days to a) buy some more de-chlorinator and b) hope some of the chlorine evaporates off.

Fish added to my semi-cycled sorority which now has the filter from the community tank in it. Should be safe. Fish looking fairly healthy and having a good pig out. Tetras have got all their colour back, corys are shoaling and being a bit humpy, bettas are exploring the tank, shrimp is being a shrimp. We'll see if everyone made it through the day alright over the next couple of days.

It's been a bad day. Buried two beautiful fish, realised why all the others had died, stripped the tank, coudn't get it ready for fish, had to comandeer another tank, didn't have enough de-chlor, the washing machine broke, I have an degree exam at 9am and have done NOTHING to prepare, one of my boys has suspected dropsy, one of the others is being very quiet, I have a delivery of 13 new neon tetras in the morning and I no longer have a stable tank to put them in, I am not going to sleep tonight . . . what else? Oh yes, did I mention the lack of preparation for my exam?

Bad day.
