Milky White Stuff From Filter?

I squeezed the filter floss in the new tank, to add beneficial bacteria, but the stuff that came out was white! Is this normal? When I put it back into the original filter, it started pumping out white stuff for a bit (5 seconds). Now both tanks are cloudy! When will the tanks clear? I thought stuff from the filter was brown! Why is it white? I tested the ESTABLISHED tank just now and both ammonia and nitrites are at 0. The new tank has 0.5 ammonia, and 0 nitrites yet. I "feed" it fish food everyday.
