The water was fine yesterday and has always up to now been clear

I fed them earlier today and noticed a white cloudy tinge to the water

As of recently I’ve started using bio balls as well as my normal filter media as they were recommended as an upgrade to keep the good bacteria up and keep the water clear could this be causing the issue?

Afaik, the balls of jelly are are just a gimmick way of selling bottled bacteria. So the cloudiness might be normal and will soon clear. I have no idea whether the balls are useful or not though.

So I proberly shouldn’t panic then!

thank you for the advice Myraan

There's nothing wrong with a good panic, every now and then...it gives your circulatory and endocrine systems a bit of a healthy workout.

But you don't need to panic. ;)
Oh I know all about panic but we’re taught to not panic in all circumstances in my line of work

Bacterial blooms are a different species of bacteria from the ones we want grow. Bloom bacteria eat organic matter rather than nitrogen based food. Tap water has organics in it and when the chlorine/chloramine is removed it allows the bacteria to flourish. Bloom bacteria live floating in the water rather than bound to surfaces and we see them as the cloudiness. Water changes don't get rid of the bloom because these bacteria multiply very fast so as soon as you've removed half of them, they've doubled in number within an hour or so. Once all their food is gone, they'll die and the water will clear but as every tank is different it is impossible to say how long this will take.

Systematic logical thinking and patience works

panic at 30,000ft can be lethal lol

I guess planes are a lot like fish the longer you fly them the easier diagnosing problems is

The longer you’ve had the fish the easier problem detection is?

I think they should change the “BRACE” Command to “stick your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye” personally lol

Just imagine the pandemonium that would cause though :fun:
