So, I'm thinking I might like to try breeding my bettas this summer when I'll have time for it. So, I was wondering if you guys could help me pick a pair? So, I tried to get pictures of all my males, and I got them of all of them except Elan, who is currently sick, not sure with what (see here). So, for Elan's picture, I'll be using one I have of him from when he was young.

Males

Bob:

Bob is a tough little betta, good size, but he thinks he's all that and he certainly rules the tank! Very photogenic as well. Not sure what tail he is, I want to say halfmoon, but not sure it's right...

Sakima:

Sakima is a fun boy, tends to be sweet. He was the smallest betta I had when I first got him, but he's quickly grown into the largest at a bit over 2 inches, I'd almost label him a King betta! He is a crown or comb tail, not sure which...

Gaurdian:

I have a better picture of him, but, none show off his colors as they all make him look green! So, yeah. Gaurdian is my newest addition, had him a bit over a week. He's a very calm boy, I worry he may actually be too calm to breed, but, we'll see. He is a fighter though, but not aggressive. He's got a great temperament and wouldn't let his old filter push him around too much. He is a veiltail

Elan

The master of bubble nests when he's healthy, he once had one covering almost his entire top of the tank. Sorry to say, but, I had to destroy it to change the water and feed him! He's a fun boy, very active for a betta! Not really a true couch potato I've noticed! Sorry for the blurry pics, and the third one is him the day i got him, i just had to share because he looks so cute with the GIANT top fin...

Females

Aphrodite:

One of my newest females, had her a while so far. Rescued from an oh so lovely home (that was sarcasm :D ). She's settling in nicely, and her quarantine is finally drawing to a close - yes, i know, long time, but, I'd rather be safe than sorry! Reminds me a bit of Gaurdian, but she's also feistier than him. I believe she is a delta tail?

Sakima's Sister

A bit of an attention hog, and she seems VERY eager to breed. I placed her by a male for a while during the move, and Elan had built a nest, and she had stripes! This picture was taken soon after that trip, so, excuse her belly. Her white spot was EXTREMELY visible that day - i think you can even see it in the second picture... She used to rule the female tank, but she is now second in command and she is the smallest female i have - she is TINY compared to her brother!

Pastel Green Female:

First picture is mainly used to show her true colors, the green now spreads her entire body up to her gills. Worked her way up from punching bag to Queen of the tank! Very fun, always tries to be center of attention! Sister of the Red/Blue/Purple Female

Red/Blue/Purple Female:

First picture mainly to show off her coloring. Excuse the blurrines... Her coloring has spread to cover more of her so she's a lot more red with blue. This female ruled the tank for the first few days, before Sakima's Sister stepped up and took over, leaving her in second. Then the pastel green female - her sister! - stepped up and took over and now she is lowliest. There aren't many fights, and she gets plenty of food, but she seems content at the bottom of the pecking order! She has red gills as a permanent part of her coloring, been there since I got her, and the water is always perfect!

My problem with Sakima and his sister, is that he is literally at least 2x her size. She's a runt, not too sure why... The other males are bigger than her, but the proper size. Sakima had no problems with sharing his tank with the shrimp and snails - just figured I'd add that on about his temperament

Defiantly aphroditie love her colors and I have a female with similar coloring but darker...idk bout which male I wanna say Bob

Lol Aphrodite and the pink/blue female are almost exactly alike - I'll get better pics of the pink/blue and pastel green females today

Aphrodite and Gaurdian,
Good Luck!

As a breeder i have to point out the bad points about going for these 2, please don't take offence as its not intended just figure a few things you should know ;)

They are both VTs so you will have 100% VT fry and although they are lovely colours, VTs are becoming less and less popular, people are more willing to spend a little extra and get a CT for example, so it is very unlikely you'll be able to find homes for all/most of the offspring produced *which could easily be 100+*

Males being bigger is usually better, as long as its not he other way round so he can't wrap her. she looks a decent size from the photo, i think they'd be a very good match :) You'll get some nice strong colours too

Dependent on the tail type of this female she may be a good choice for Elan when he's recovered :)

If possible could you get a picture of Bob flaring?

I can certainly get a better picture - or at least try. I had bought the sibling set with the intent to breed them. Gaurdian and Aphrodite I picked up as rescues, but I love their coloring. What tails would I get if I bred Gaurdian to the pastel green who I believe is a delta. Pastel green and her sister are offspring of two halfmoons

Honestky, I think Gaurdian would breed best. Who would be the best female for him? Granted, this would probably be a backup plan. At what point do you usually pull the male from the tank? Earliest you've done it?

Alright then, he will be my room buddy then! No breeding for him :) hes still my pretty boy lol. So, first choice should be Sakima? I love bobs coloring though. Black lace on the edge of his fins. What's the earliest you should remove the father from the tank? When do you usually remove the father?

Male is usually removed 3 days after the fry hatch, by this time they should be swimming fine alone

I do like Bob but am waiting on another pic ;)

Alright, I know some people keep them in there until the fry are about two weeks old! So, curious lol

I'm making a photobucket album of all bob pics i have right now, and I'll post the link in a min. I'll take more pics of him tonight when I get home.

EDITED FROM THIS POINT ON:

Here's the link to this photo album!
Oh! And I have some pictures of some of their parents and older relatives, just in case that helps make a choice...

And I have their birthdays too, in case age helps XD I have bdays of everyone except for Gaurdian and Artemis
Sakima and his sister were spawned August 28th
The twin girls were spawned August 8th
Bob was spawned on August 29th
Elan was spawned on August 18th

I am not offended at at all,
You do have a point of them becoming less popular, but it all depends if you are breeding them for profit or to take a step forward into the hobby.
