So i walked into walmart today to get some salt for my tanks. Cheapest place to get it and i wondered over to the fish and relized that they had a gold nugget pleco. Had to check out the price. $5. My lfs here has them for $59 so i was thinking i cant turn down this deal. I was going to put it in a quarinteen tank for 2 weeks tho first with pimafix. I would add salt to but i heard corys and plecos cant handle much salt. Will this be a bad idea or will it be fine??

I don't think the salt would be necessary or appreciated by the pleco at all. Does it look or act sick? If not, why add medication or salt? Just keep it in quarantine and provide good filtration, small amounts of food, and regular water changes.

wow, excellent find.

as modernhamlet said, as long as there's nothing wrong with the pleco on a fairly visible level, just treat it as you would a normal tank. as far as i know, the purpose of a "new arrival" quarantine tank is to keep an eye on the fish to make sure it shows no signs of illness for a reasonable time. if something does turn up, however, *then* figure out the meds.

First make sure that u r seeing gold nuget pleco some other specie of pleco looks alot like it. So make sure u getting it first. I dont like fish from walmart much as they dont tend to know how to handle there fish. 2 of my local walmart have dead fish all over the place which I will never buy any fish from walmart. If you want it you probably have to check on its health first. If its be on repair. I suggest just leave it. If its healthy buy it and q tank it for 2-3 weeks. And see how he does.

indeed check on that species! if i recall correctly from reading in the Catfish forum, there are several species of plec that can be labled Gold Nugget--some of which grow to about 8" and others that reach 24"!
