Welp, I have my new 80 gallon completely set up and decorated now (I'll try to snag some pics when dad gets home with my camera,) so I decided to add both Maire Antoinette and Aristotle to see if they could manage to get along in a tank that large... and so far it's working beautifully! Marie was the agressor in the 29 gallon, but so far she hasn't shown any agression whatsoever in the 80 gallon... in fact, she has been swimming pretty close to Aristotle like she's interested in befriending him or something
Aristotle hasn't nipped her, but he has made it apparent that he remembers how she beat him up a while back. He's wary when she swims close, and keeps a close watch on her.

I'll have to monitor them well for the next few days, of course, as they begin to establish territories and really settle in to the tank, but I'm hopeful that this could work out after all

Edit: Pics added, click here :D

congrats, im sure they'll be happy together

I'm sure they will too, for about 3-6 months. ;)

nice tank and I love the midas. I recently got one that's similar and I just love him. I've always been a fan of mostly white midas/red devils. :D

Haha, exactly. It's worth a shot, though.
Marie has already established a territory (the rock on the right and the driftwood,) but she's letting Aristotle swim through it without aggressing. As long as he doesn't try to swim into her hidey-hole behind the rock, he's ok :p

I can't believe it. Marie is actually letting Aristotle into her territory
I saw him hanging out behind Marie's rock today, and she didn't act the slightest bit disturbed by this. She definitely saw him, but didn't even offer up a flare!!
What on earth!? This is really shocking to me

Maybe she thinks he's her mate now or something? After all, she did lay eggs when they were in the 29 gallon together... there as a divider between them, but she could still clearly see him. I just can't understand why she's letting him sit around in her territory, behind her rock. :S

i smell a hybrid coming on :p

Hahaha... that's not even possible, right? I sure hope not, because those would be some ugly babies

Right now the oscar is "sitting" on the midas' rock while she's resting under it

not only would they be as ugly as sin but as evil as well :D

...Ok, I'm almost completely sure she thinks he's her mate. Today she was clearing off her rock and doing a little jig over it (not laying eggs, but it's definitely not a normal behaviour for her.)
She also has been following Aristotle around like a lost puppy. When he turns his back, like he always does because he couldn't care less if she were in the tank or not, she offers up a tiny little flare. It doesn't look like aggression -- more like "look at me and stop searching for food!". She makes trips back and forth... goes to the oscar, gets his attention, then goes back to her rock.

She has also been doing a lot of atypical posturing with him, but not like she did when she was being aggressive towards him... this time she has been lining up head-to-tail with him and going head down -_-

Edit: And now Aristotle is digging a pit in the middle of the tank... I have NEVER seen him dig before. As much as I dislike this activity due to the potential aggression involved, I must say, both fish have never looked better! Their colours are really flashy right now :D
I think it's funny how they have separate areas picked out. Aristotle prefer the middle of the tank, while Marie is diligently cleaning off her rock, lol
