So I am pretty sure my Female Micky Mouse Fish has retained sperm from a male in the pet shop. She just had babys about a week ago or so and i was just woundering, if she is infact retaining sperm and still has some left...how long would it take for her to have her next batch?

roughly about a month I think maybe wrong I dont do livebearers lol someone will give you a better date

scot :)

Thank You! This time i plan on putting her alone when I think she is close to delivery this time. want to go get a birth box soon so I can just sit her in there after a while...i only got 10 out of her last batch because I missed her having them So i think most of them got eaten by my frog.

hi putting her in the trap to early will stress her and she may abort so time it well :good:
regards scot :)

I got 3 out of my platys first drop 3 days after I brought her home from the shop!
theyre doin really well now tho

but I only got 6 out of the 2nd drop :/
and I think that was because they got out of the breeding trap ¬_¬

I'm setting up a seperate tank now, seems the best way if you know shes close

I have a 60 gallon well planted tank with female platy and multiple female mollies all pregnant. I don't even both moving the females or anything just go in there with a net and pick them out here and there and place them in my grow out tank so i can sell them to LFS for credit. With a well planted tank I don't have any problems with them being eaten because so many hiding spots and I even have a Yoyo loach in the tank for the snails and ho doesn't touch them.

I had a 10gallon tank as grow out tank but had to make it a lot bigger due to amount of babies.

GL on catching the poor babies before they are eaten because mickey mouse platy are so cool looking.

They can hold sperm packets to last up to 6 months dropping fry every 4-6 weeks.

Write down the drop dates, this way you can roughly know when they are due again, you will see a regular pattern forming in thier drops.

Ok i marked it down on my calender, I put it a few days early so that way i can start watching her and see how shes doing.

So if i just fill a nice sized tank full of fake plants then i should not have a problem with them getting eaten? just remove the mom after I see a change in her size or babys floating around?

If you have plenty of cover and place the female in that separate tank for her drop, expect to be able to save almost all of the fry. The next question is what you will do with them all. In my case, I set up good survival situations when I want fry to look after, and the rest of the time I leave the females in community situations where I get almost no survivors. In my breeding colonies of goodeids, the fry are born big enough that many survive with no help from me at all.
