In the livebearer booklet "Zahnkarpfen, die Lebendgebärenden im Aquarium" (1981) by Gerhard Gärtner is shown a picture of a wild platy (Xiphophorus maculatus) species. It's an in captivity bred male coming from wildcaughts of a strain from Veracruz, Mexico (Schlosser 1976).
But also this male is already showing a slight Mickey Mouse pattern (only the other way around). Just like mine that were caught at Chuco's place (wildcaught 2019). But mine has got the pattern in the right direction. It seems that the Mickey Mouse pattern goes already way back in the wild... But the one shown in this book has got the opposite direction when it comes to the markings.

It seemed that this particular male has got a crescent and 2 markings. It seemed that there were also specimens that had more of a spot which made the markings look like ears.

With the Xiphophorus maculatus from Chuco´s place (wildcaught 2019, Coordinates location: 18.37166 - 92.69411 National Park Biosphere Reserve Pantanos de Centra), both genders also show a Mickey Mouse pattern and a dot on both sides of the shoulder. But this version has got the marking in the same direction as the fancy strains with a Mickey Mouse pattern.
