I've had 2 female mickeys and 1 male for about 6-10 weeks now. I was expecting at least one female to give birth within half that. I was just wondering about this. Right now all the platys are about 2 inches, i suppose. one thing i've noticed about these red mickey mouse platys, i've not noticed a "gravid" spot like guppies get. Perhaps someonecould show me a pciture of a pregnant mickey mouse platy?

Here you go buddy, this is my platy, i call them tiger platys cos this particular one has mild stripes through it..

But this is exactly the same as the micky mouse platy :)

this is a vid of a pregnant one, giving birth as well :)

ps the last 2 are great, you see them swimming about :)

As a general rule platies give birth every 28-32 days. but many things can affect this time, mainly temp, the lower the temp the longer they take. However don't raise the temp to far though as they drop quicker but the fry tent to die more easily.

Water quality also affects it, if the water is bad the mum will either abort the young eggs or she can even hold on to the fry for an extra 10-14 days.

So do weekly water changes and keep the water a good 74-78F plenty of good food and some live foods and your be fine.

Alright, sounds good. Today I actually added 3 more platy's, keeping the 2 females to 1 male ratio, so now I have 2 males and 4 females. Although technically they aren't mickies, they are the exact same color, just without the mickey. Oh, and 5steady, your platies share a birthday with, well, me! I find it odd that of 365 days in a year, the one video shows me is the one, just talking randomly here though. water quality and temperature is fine, however what is the "premium" water ph for platy breeding/birthing?
