Is it possible to run a 150w MH bulb on a 70w ballast?

Obviously I know it wouldn't run the bulb at full power, but I don't know how the ballast acts regards to it's output...

I doubt it would work, there wont be enough power to light it.

Technical reasons for it?

(as there are lots of devices you can put in half the power and they will give you half the output/brightness - LEDs is a good example but here I am not sure with regards to the specifics of using HID Ballasts).

I don't think it matters now.

My reasoning was that 70w 10,000k bulbs seemed crazy expensive, but I have manged to find some. (only 10kk so far though).

in short no a 70w will not power anything over 70w it will burn out they dont smell nice and it will be a nice fire risk as its the metal coils that burn (ex sparky)
