Hi all,

I am looking at getting a 6x2x2 for my mpimbwe frontosa that I just got from mike's riftlakes.

At the moment I am undecided which way to go so was looking for some info please.

Do I go with a sump setup and sell my old tank or metal stand with 6x2x2 ontop and my old 4x18x18 on the bottom and just use externals ?

Where would I buy a metal stand for 2 tier setup and are they safe ?

Would a sump setup be as easy as a external to clean ?

thanks
Steve

Can't help on the sump I'm afraid.

The metal stand will only be as strong as its made. I doubt 1inch box iron would be suitable, but something stronger would of course work. Go to a steel fabricators and get them to give you a price.

I have never seen a metal stand made for your combination of tanks. I build most of my own stands from wood so a custom metal stand is outside of my own experience. In my own case, I am always looking for a better way to increase the number of tanks that I have so I would be looking to build a stand to hold both tanks. A 6 foot by 2 by 2 is not really as huge as it seems. A simple stand built from some 2x6 lumber for the horizontal components would be big enough to hold the weight of the 6x2x2. The 4 foot tank is smaller in all dimensions so a simple second shelf mounted under the first would be plenty to hold that. I have built stands for a 4 foot tank using nothing more robust than 1x6 lumber so it is not really a challenge as far as weight carrying capacity. A steel tank stand might give you slightly smaller overall dimensions than one made of decent wood products but it is not a DIY project and would cost you considerably more to build.
