Metal Halide Hight

Me and my dad are getting the lights put in place this week and we are suspending them over the tank by a chain, anyway, how far from the surface of the water do the lights want to be ?
the tank is 2 foot deep if that changes anything

i know they should be at least 10 cm higher that seems like very little though ..... other then that im not 100% sure but its something i would love to know!

edit: i think i should of said inches.

about 12" from the surface is adequate i believe
