Saw a couple of clown plecos in the store today. They looked a little thin but otherwise OK. Unfortunately the store is an hour from here, so even if I decide I want them I might not have time to go get them tomorrow before someone else buys them. :/

Anyway, the point of the post is that I know they are wood chewers and they make a mess with it. But how much of a mess do they make? And how much of the wood do they really eat? Am I going to have to be replacing nice pieces of driftwood because they've basically chewed them completely to bits or is it just a little that they chew off every once in a while?

And does anyone know their personality? Would two of them do well in a planted 55 gallon tank that has gouramis, barbs, and yoyo loaches? There is also a rubbernose pleco in there but I may move him. I also have a 20 gallon high (13"x 24"x16") with stocking room to put one or both clowns in but that seems like it would be a little cramped, right?

TIA!

in our tank with 4 wood eating plecs in it - there is a thin 'film' of sone brown sedament that forms on the top of the sand...

the filter clears it up if there is enough flow... it tells me when the filters need cleening ;)

I've not had to replace any wood yet though ;)
