anybody using mercury vapour lamp/bulb on their setup?
i am currently considering this over halide.
any comment and/or feedback is highly appreciated.

I know a few "Reefers" who do (I'll let you decide which kind :D ). If you so choose which wattage, how big of a tank and what are you looking to keep? Like "MH" one needs to keep the lighs well cooled and don't get them wet when their hot  . Have you considered High Pressure Sodiums? I don't know if one or all are easy to locate just in case the ones you keep blow out in your neck of the woods. Just make sure your tank is deep enough or you can adjust the light's hight so you don't burn the critters.

thanks for the post.
i have a 50gal planted tank and currently considering the giesemann or bresslein 125W HQL pendant.
would this work?

Man a 50 gallon? Here I was thinking at least a 100 gallon since most people who run the "exotic" lights need the deeper water penetration. Yeah it'll work but things around the tank will get sun damage (picture a solar eclipse) when you move the tank there will be a dark spot and everything around it would've faded. Besides you'll most likely have to wear sunglasses.

my tank is 2ft deep. it is a made-to-order tank.
i was advised that a minimum of 2WPG is advisable for planted tanks.
is mercury vapour lights more intense than halides or flourescents considering same wattage?
