just added 2 black mollies to my tank, already have a speckled one, thing is the speckled one has started attacking the other 2, nothing to serious, just seems to be pestering the life out of them, anyone any ideas why??, also the speckled one looks quite a size, big belly on it, we had 2 mollies but one died last week, so we just replaced, could the spec be preggers so its in the defensive?, the 2 black mollies are slightly different in appearance one has a big tail (like a u shape on its side) the other has a smaller tail & fins, is this different sexes, its the new black one with the shorter tail that seems to be getting the most attention off the speckled, thanks for any advice in advance!! good.gif

do you know how to tell the sex on each? Look for a gonopodium on them, if they have one they are males, it looks like a tube, it's under the belly, females will have fan shaped fins instead. Sounds like they're trying to mate, you probably got 2 males and 1 female, this could be a problem, they need to be at a ratio of 2 females per male.

pics of the fish in question

any ideas then anyone??

Do you have larger, clearer pictures? It's hard to say but I would guess black male and silver female. That is most certainly a guess. I can't tell if the fin on the male is pointed or if the fin is female-shaped and it is translucent and I just can't see it's shape from the distance and clarity. Can you take video instead if the fish won't hold still?

the 2 black ones at the top are 2 different fish, pic 2 is a solid tail & the tail of pic one is translucent as you can see

and me. i also notice you have a betta in the tank with them? hows that working out?

Hey there! I actually started out with mollies and actually today I gave away 2 of them because they did become super agressive. The main agressier was a female with that lyretail (like yours theh ushape) and was orange, and then the other one was a dalmantion male. They started picking on the other fish (killed all my guppies) and then started beating each up like tearing fins and scales off. So I just put them up for adoption, and it only been like 6 hours but my fish seem so much happier. LOL. Im excited cuz now I can get new fish because my mean ones wont kill them anymore. LOL Good luck!
