here is how member of the month works. A member of the fourm has to pm you a nomination of who they think should be member of the month. There should be alot of nominations because there is alot of members. The members nominate who they think is helpfull,nice,and genrually gives advice. Then after you get about 20 nominees you put them on poll so that people can vote for them. The person who has the most votes wins. What doy think about member of month??

This is a question posed out of sheer curisoity, and if you don't want to answer it, I will understand...

But why is a member who just joined a few days ago so concerned about starting up an award program?

Maybe hang around the forum for a few weeks or months and get a feel for the community for a while. If you really need some help determining who is giving you good or bad advice, look through some of the member's old posts (and the thread's reaction to those old posts) -- that should tell you an awful lot about the info that person is giving. Old posts are a much better way of determining a person's knowledge than if they had ever won a popularity contest at some point (which, exactly as Wilder said, is all these things ever end up being).

there could be some guy thats not very helpful but has been hear for a year and a newbie thats gave more help then the other guy already, but the older member would still win. it doesn't really work well. like the first person said.

There again, it is quite a good idea! As people will be encouraged to help more, rather than just reading a post, knowing the answer but thinking "somebody else will answer it". Think about it logically, but yes, Wilder would probably win all the time, maybe have it so that you can't win the competition twice in the same year?

That is a very good point, and one that a popularity contest style Member of the Month would not fully address.

As far as information being given, it is quality, not quantity that matters. I am not criticising Wilder for trying to help, but I am a little wary of the way some people idolise her.

For the above reasons I cannot see how a MotM could ever really work.

Go for it, I can't see a good reason why anyone should have a real problem with this unless their personal lives are way too tied up in TFF. I don't care if someone else besides my self wins, in fact I probably wouldn't even partiipate in something like this just because I don't spend enough time here to really know anyone nor do I really care who thinks I'm popular or not (no offense but that's what my real social life is for). But if someone wants to have a M.O.M. popularity contest on this forum then more power to them, it wouldn't really affect my ability to give and recieve help here on TFF.

Had you taken the time to read my post properly you would have seen that I was not critical of you in any way, but rather the blind way some people attribute a high post count to automatic intelligence and knowledge.

I've learnt alot but nobody every knows it all, I give it my best shot when nobody else answer the post.
Always helped sick animals, and if don't like it andy that your problem.
I haven't stuck around 2 years to make a mod never will, don't care its the fish i'm here for.
