I'm taking some wild caught Dialeptos next week, the fish commonly referred to as dwarf auratus due to the female colouring. Anyhow they seem pretty mild mannered in comparison to some of the Melanochromis Species, but I have no experience of them myself.

To those that have kept or even seen them, what do you think?

Quite rare fish, used to be known as Dwarf Auratus because of the visual similarity. Fortunately they do not share the same sadistic temperament, they are still aggressive but can be mixed with a number of other Mbuna. Do not mix them with Auratus though, they won't last 5 minutes.

I think they are currently on the threatened species list so i'm actually a little surprised you can get hold of them.

I currently have white labs, melanochromis labrosus, Estherae, Acei and Saulosi in my tank. Generally speaking do you think it's a bad idea to get them with this mix?

I don't see a compatibility problem with any of those species, nothing of similar appearance and although the Labrosus are Melanochromis, they are clearly very different to Dialepto.

Sounds good. :good:

Thanks. Just hope the Dialeptos aren't too aggressive. I have the space, given that it's a 6.5ft tank, for things to go well.

Any rare fish suggestions whilst you're here?

P.Flavus are one of my favourites and hard to get hold of here in the UK, would contrast nicely colour-wise with your existing fish. :D
