ok I have 2 yellow tail blue fijian damsels which have developed open sores (think it was an ify lot from LFS) am looking for a treatment that is safe to use everyone keeps suggesting melafix but not sure if there are any side effects of this stuff as I have corals and iverts aswell as fish in the tank all of which (other than the 2 damsels) which are doing fine, I have used this stuff in ponds before and know it can foam up slightly which could be a prob with the skimmer, having looked at instructions it recommends turning skimmer off! is this wise or should i look for alternative treatment

i used it other week since my clown had a mouth fungus dosed for a week and now its goen completly :) the crabs n snails seemed unaffected by it too! i think its best to turn off uv sterilisers, skimemrs and to remove any carbon from a filter. it worked great for me!

was there any side effects with having the skimmer off for a week?
was there much foaming when you turned it back on?

There will be LOTS of foaming when you turn it back on, but a week without skimming shouldn't be too bad. Just make sure you turn your air input way down when restarting the skimmer and babysit it for a few hours :)

well its a very good product because it gets the fish better very quick. But if you use pimafix and melafix together the fish will heal faster in terms of fin restoration. Also you have to do a 25% water change after the medication period is over. Also its a good medication because it comes from natural herbs :good:
