Sock is my new betta that i rescued from a cup at petcetera  he's all red and has some blue flecks......his name was Faze but that was not a good name! anyway i was wondering if it's pretty common for cup bettas to have swim blader disorder cuz poor sock has a really hard time swimming :-( :-( or maybe it's because he has no muscles??? it's really sad to watch him struggle to the surface....so i lowered the water level and that seems better......it's really sad i was wondering if he might recover :/

He should recover. I put my female betta in my 35 gallon and it was to deep for her so she got some sort of swim bladder thing I think, put her in a shallower tnak and she got better!

I've bought a couple that were in such small amounts of water that they were grossly mis-shaped and almost had a hunchback. One in particular would just lay on the bottom looking pathetic so I kept him in a shallow bowl ,he'd struggle to come up for food and sink right back to the bottom after he ate , after about 3 months he's fantastic and now lives in a split 3 way betta apartment, very active & the picture of health

don't worry, just give him some extra attention & he should be fine ;)

sbd is a disease that can be fatal. my betta had swimbladder disorder and it died but some one i kno, his betta had sbd and it got better within 8 days of having it. so i think its a 50/100 chance of dying and living.

Follow my sig for more info on swim bladder...

However don't forget fish occasionally get swim -bladder and get over it. However sometimes fish don't recover and well don't make it most of the time :-( . However this one should make it.
