I feel bad now though because I have mine in little tanks. King is in a 1.5 gallon and MayMay is in a 3 gallon. So tommorow I am getting a 10-gallon and setting that up with a Light and Filter, and putting them in that. I am getting a divider. I may not be the biggest, but that is all I can get right now. I would get a heater, but the light we have for my Hermit Crabs, which I again will be getting keeps it at the perfect tempurature. :D Then Link now is in the Community fish tank.

A 1.5 gallon and 3 gallon are perfect size.
They are all veyr pretty/cute/hansome

Cool! Only thing is Maymay looks like you overfed her, her belly is way too big!

This is the guide I used on how to know when you fed them enough. Give her a day or 2 before you feed her again.

She has always been like that. She is larger in size now too. I only feed them a couple flakes once a day.
Flakes or pellets? you should be feeding your fish betta specific pellets. I always recommend Hikari Betta Bio-Gold (there are others that work fine).

Also, the females abdomen has gotten larger or her overall size?

The reason I ask is because there could be three things going on.

1) Overfeeding - which you are already aware of

2) Constipation: results in a bloated look and swim bladder problems. From overfeeding or from a poor diet. To fix this, change the diet or feeding pattern. Also consider boiling a pea, then squishing it. Offer this as food. The fiber will help clear things up ;)

3) Dropsy (internal bacterial infection). Don't shrug off any excessive bloating, and look for lethargic behavior or pineconed scales. This is a new fish and there may be some sort of internal bacterial infection. Worst case scenario, but you can treat it.

Her overall size is. Even my mom ws surprised how large she was. When I had other female they were small all their lives, and then there is MayMay. She doesn't seem sick at all. She swims normally, is active, and eats when I give her her flakes.

They are Betta specific flakes so is that okay? When I get brine for my Tropicals (Which is like never. XD) my Bettas all get a tiny bit as a treat, but not to much.

1.5 gallon is not good at all. The ten gallon is a great idea. Even though it will be divided, the fish waste will be diluted a lot more and your water will be far easier to keep stable in terms of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate ect. A gentle HOB filter ( they can be modified further to slow outflow even more ) is also a great idea.

Sorry but I have to disagree. A 1 gallon MINIMUM is reccomended, so its perfect. Ovbiously your quite new to betttas and is letting PETA teach you that bettas need 10000 ofgallons of water. Ive been into bettas for years, and they dont mind, trust me. A 1.5 gallon is a huge upgrade to the cup at petco. You could divide the 10 into 4 and put 4 little guys in their.

actualy 1.5 is ok, not great just ok and certainly not perfect. yea 1 gallon is the bare min, but if you have the money and the space, why keep them in something smaller?> just because yes it can be done (only with very good water care) does not mean that its easier or better.

while I dont always agree with everything honeythorn says, advising someone (nicely) who happens to be newer to bettas that a larger tank is easier to care for is a good idea....a person new to bettas or fish might not have the know how required to properly keep up with the small tanks.

WRONG. I am strongly against PETA, and I have no idea who reccomended 1 gallon but if they have some sort of mindless idea that in the wild they live in little puddles, as seems to be a popular myth, then they are delusional. The basic fact that 1 gallon will render your water parameters very unstable, and it cannot be heated or gently filtered properly is more than enough reason to keep a betta in ten gallons. 5 gallons is the bare minimum for me. I believe in this unusual concept called swimming space you see. And DON'T patronise me. I may not have a betta at the moment due to space issues ( seeing as I refuse to cram a fish into a 1 gallon pot ) , but I have kept them in the past. I am certainly not new to them.

Sorry but i in no way believe that bettas live in little puddles, they live in rice paddies w/ 1000 gallons of water.

If you have the room to keep your fish in 10 gallons then by all means do it,but you dont HAVE to. Bettas are just fine in 1 gallons with regulary 50% daily water changes, and yes you cna heat a tank that small...just watch me..

Noobs.....

No I don't have to. I would do it because I prefer to give a fish space to do what fish tend to do best. Swim. Keeping one in 1 gallon because of lack of space on your part is a selfish thing to do. Yes a betta can survive in 1 gallon with daily 50% water changes. I never said it couldn't nor did I say you couldn't heat a tank that small. I simply believe in giving a fish space to swim, and keeping a steady water chemistry via a biological cycle. This is much easier to maintain in a filtered 5-10 gallons with bi weekly water changes than in a 1 gallon pot.

Well, I'm going to agree with most people here. A 1 gallon is the minimum. It is not hard to maintain at all.

Malorey- BTW, lovely bettas. Your Link looked just like my Polo.

Well in amongst the bickering about tank size I'd like to say what lovely Bettas you have got  and as the OP has already stated, she/he is going to get a bigger tank.

So lets not ruin a newbies post please :good: :good: They have posted pics for us to see of their lovely new fooshies and it's slowly turning into yet another debate!!!!

Debates are fun. Simply put.

I have a question about King though. Is that like a fork I see right in the middle of the tail, do the spiked areas split off in two different directions? If so, very cool!
